The oneworld alliance was founded in February 1999 and currently has 13 members.
The alliance is one of several airline alliances formed around the world. Major airlines ultimately join alliances to gain significant benefits such as codeshare agreements and increased market coverage. So, which airlines are members of the oneworld alliance?
American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, four of the five founding members, are a part of the oneworld alliance. The other founding member, the now-defunct Canadian Airlines, exited the alliance in June 2000.
Seven months after oneworld was created, Finnair and Iberia joined. In April 2007, Japan Airlines and Royal Jordanian officially became members. Six years later, Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways became part of the alliance, with SriLankan Airlines joining the following year. In 2020, Royal Air Maric joined the alliance, followed by Alaska Airlines in 2021.
